HoundDog Technology Announces 1,500th Customer and Doubles Growth in 2008

23 September 2008

HoundDog Technology, provider of easy and affordable Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools for IT Support and Managed Service companies, today announced its 1,500th customer and a doubling in Hounddog revenues during the first six months of 2008.

The lesser known of the RMM vendors, HoundDog has built up its base of 1,500 IT support companies through a strong product offering and word-of-mouth referral, says company Chief Executive Doug Wilson.

“In many respects, we are one of the best kept secrets in IT support. Being a bootstrapped company, we did not have the venture capital backing to make a big promotional splash, so we let the product speak for itself. And our aim with the product has been to simplify the whole remote monitoring and management space, making it easier and more affordable for IT support companies to gain the advantages of proactively monitoring their clients – lower costs, better service standards and growing revenues,” he said.

“Given the current state of the economy, we’re finding that support companies are re-evaluating their needs and find they don’t actually need all of the expensive and time-consuming bells and whistles that the complicated packages provide. Our model – actually delivering a bit less than big bloated toolsets but dramatically cutting the costs and the time to implement a solution – has certainly resonated with a large number of support companies in a short period of time,” Wilson added.

HoundDog credits much of its rapid growth, which includes a doubling in revenues and staff, as well as expansion into five additional countries in 2008, to on word-of-mouth referral.

“Our customers love HoundDog and love talking about it with their peers. We’ve found that word-of-mouth has generated a huge volume of business for us, based on the features of the product and the ease with which companies can get going,” Wilson said.

Wilson added that with the rise of social technologies such as blogs and social networks, the company is finding that people are sharing information more readily. No longer do all the advantages go to the dominant vendors who have the venture capital to spend on marketing and sales. Smaller companies like HoundDog who choose to spend their resources on innovative products can be successful too, he said.

HoundDog was recently shortlisted for CRN Channel Awards 2008 Software Vendor of the Year – along with a few other upstarts including Microsoft, Oracle and VMWare – based on strong growth and positive customer testimonials.
